Parent Volunteers
I would love volunteers to help in our classroom to help students as well as planning parties! I will be sending out a Google Doc with information and sign-ups for volunteers.
Birthdays
Birthdays are an exciting time of year for everyone! Students may bring store bought treats to school on their birthday but it is not necessary. Please make sure there is one for every student and that it doesn’t contain any nuts. If you are providing a treat, please let me know ahead of time to ensure there is time to celebrate!
Absences and Tardies
If your child has been out of school due to illness, PLEASE make sure that they are fever free--without medication--for at least 24 hours before returning to school to avoid spreading illness. I will be sure to give them adequate time to make up any work they have missed. The number of days they miss will be the number of days they have to make up assignments.
It is crucial that your child is at school as much as possible during the school year. If your child will be missing school, please notify me as soon as possible so I can begin making a packet for them.
Your child will be considered tardy if they arrive later than 15 minutes from their start time. After this time they will need to check in at the office before coming to class.

Missing Assignments
Students will have two weeks from the due date to turn in any missing work. After that time, it will not be accepted. This allows students to stay caught up with the current unit. Exceptions will be made on an individual basis.
The fourth grade team has put together a program called “Fast Finisher Friday”. Students who have completed all of their assignments for the week get to participate in an activity with the other students in fourth grade. Students that didn’t have a chance to complete the assignments will work on them during this time.
It is not a punishment to stay inside, it is an opportunity to help students stay caught up with the class and give more one on one time with a teacher.

Classroom Management
In order to guarantee all the students in our classroom have the learning environment they deserve, there are some basic expectations in place for our classroom.
I know that all students can behave appropriately in class. I hope this policy will enhance learning and facilitate instruction.
Class Rules:
1.I will follow directions the first time
2.I will keep my hands, feet, mouth, and objects to myself
3.I will put people up, NOT down
4.I will use noise levels appropriate for the classroom
5.I will use materials the correct way and put them away when finished
If a student chooses to break a rule, they may receive a verbal warning, conference with the teacher, or a call/note home to parent.
If a behavior continues a meeting with the parent(s), principal, student, and teacher may be necessary.
I will also use rewards/positive reinforcement to reward good behavior such as class parties, weekly raffles, and Fast Finisher Friday.

Homework
A packet of homework will be sent homework on Monday. The spelling/vocabulary, math pages, and any other assignments should be completed and returned on Friday. I will email an answer sheet for the math homework as well as post it on the class website. Please correct the homework with your child and allow them correct any mistakes they may make. Spelling/Vocabulary quizzes will be given on Friday, please make sure your student is ready for them.
Classroom assignments will generally be completed during class time. If your student does not finish an assignment, they will need to take it home, complete it, and return it the following day.
A reading contract will be sent home in the homework packet and is due on Friday. If your student misplaces his/her contract, you may write it on a piece of paper with your signature or print another copy from the class website. Each student should be reading AT LEAST 20 minutes per day. Please record the amount they read on the contract. This will be part of their grade for Language Arts.
In fourth grade, your child should be spending 40 minutes daily on homework. Sample: 20 minutes reading, 15 minutes on math homework and math facts (multiplication and division-VERY IMPORTANT), 5 minutes studying spelling/vocabulary.
